Burnout from burnout

In a coaching session today, my client felt like she was experiencing burnout from being burnt out.
We looked at recognising the signs and why this might be, so that she could avoid the same patterns happening next time.
Sometimes it’s hard to see the signs until we take a step back and recognise that actually, something has changed. Things aren’t quite the way they used to be or should be.
• Are your sleeping habits changing?
• Have you lost motivation?
• Are you feeling like you can’t cope with everything you have to do?
• Are you really tired every day, no matter how much sleep you’re getting?
• Are you struggling to regulate your emotions? I.e are you crying a lot or getting angry at things?
These may be the start of becoming burnt out.
Recognising the signs is the first step in knowing something has to change.
I wish I was able to recognise my symptoms before it was too late for me!
How can you help prevent these things from happening or to cope once you’ve identified them?
• Allow yourself time for you that doesn’t involve work or job related activities.
• Get fresh air every day.
• Put your phone away half an hour before going to sleep.
• Eat well & stay active.
• Remind yourself of the positive things you are doing rather than focusing on the negative.
• Speak to someone about how you’re feeling.
You can avoid burn out.
Your work can wait.
Look after yourself - it’s always going to be more important than anything else.
