Teachers, I'm sorry

Teachers, I’m sorry.
I’m sorry that:
• you are exhausted
• there is no money for resources, training or staff
• Senior leaders are covering for other staff & not being able to get their work done
• children’s behaviour has gotten worse
• support staff need more training but there is no money or cover to release them
• there are so many children with special educational needs without support
• the fear of Ofsted means you go in every day on edge, waiting for the call
• the workload is never ending
• staff are leaving
I speak with so many teachers who say the same thing and it’s heartbreaking.
One of the saddest things is that teachers are doing their absolute best. They are working themselves to the bone to get their jobs done.
And they are trying to make things better. They are trying to put in so many creative initiatives to support the mental health of those in their school.
Things like:
• senior mental health leads
• wellbeing days
• an open door policy
• strategies to reduce workload
• raising awareness of mental health
But teachers are not superheroes. We can only do so much. It feels so frustrating. Teachers are working on themselves and caring for their children, but it’s the industry that is under so much stress and pressure.
Something has got to change!
Teachers, you are doing the best you can. It’s not your fault education is broken at the moment.
